National Parks  


Galapagos National Park

It has a surface of 693,700 hectares and one marine reserve of 7´000.000 hectares.

In the XVII century the buccaneers used the Islands like operations center and during XVIII and XIX centuries whaling and hunting of seals, disembarked attempting against its fauna.

San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz, Isabela and Floreana, are islands that nowadays are inhabited by migrants coming in their majority from the continental part of Ecuador. The main source of income for the Islands has been and is the tourism

The Island counts with 220 species of endemic plants, 119 introduced and 399 native. Some of the species are unique in the world and several resemble those of the American continent.

It is possible to observe varied species of fauna which include: giant turtles, blue legs piqueros, Darwin pinzones, frigates, albatross, penguins, rabijuncos and cormoranes, marine and terrestrial iguanas, marine wolves, four species of endemic mice and two bats.
